Cruickshank Canyon Lookout; Wed Aug 11, 2010; hiking; leader: Len Wells      return to Reports

A group of 7 members met on Harmston Ave at 8am and headed for Raven Lodge. (The plan was to meet one member at the parking lot, and 2 on the trail near Helen Mackenzie) After acquiring Eileen at the parking lot, and the standard group introductions, we were on the trail at 8:30am, now 8 members strong!
At Battle Ship Lake we unexpectedly met up with Bill Brown who popped out of the bush (I here this is not uncommon), so now 9. As planned, we met Helen and Angela at the trail JTC to Helen McKenzie. (now 11 including Bill) However, shortly past Croteau lake Bill headed off on his own, only later to meet up with us at Lake Beautiful.

With a steady pace, and only a few stops to rehydrate, get some nourishment, and take in the view at Bills lookout, we arrived at our destination at 12:10pm. I think we were all in AWE with the view. I was shocked on how loud all the falling water was. The plan was to depart the lookout at 1:00pm, though Bill headed off by himself into the wild, getting the group stirred, so half headed to Lake Beautiful to finish off the lunch break.

With the group of now 10 at Lake Beautiful, we continued on heading up towards the Rangers Cabin. And once again, at Circlet Lake JTC we bumped into Bill one last time, who then took his own path home. A few members of the group opted for one last quick break at Helen Mackenzie, while the rest continued on to the parking lot. We were all were in the cars and heading back home by 4:30pm. By the time we arrived at our own cars, it was 5:00.

The trails are in excellent conditions with only a few locations that you need to dance around the mud. Thanks to all the members for the great company and conversations, and to Geoff and Mike for helping keep us on time and calling breaks.

p.s. We started and ended this trip with 10 so thats 100% Mike, if we include Bill joining us intermittently, it is like 110%
