It was a typical hot Aug day with a pall of smoke from the interior forest fires when six members and three guests got a early start on the Allen Lake hike. After a brief rest at Perservence Creek we started our 160 m climb thru an old clearcut. After a welcome rest stop at Sykes Bridge we followed a contour line to the south end of Allen Lake. The trail passed a steam donkey left over from the early days of logging. Dan said it was one the best preserved he had ever seen. Dropping down a gentle slope we arrived at Allen Lake we all except Bill had a refreshing swim in the tepid waters of Allen Lake followed by a much anticipated lunch in the shade of the forest that had escaped the clearcut. A leisurely walk returned us to the vehicles by 2 pm Report contributors: Bucky B, Rea M, Participant list: Stella B, Bill B, Bucky B, Dave G, Carol H, Rea M, (G) = public guest (L) = lapsed member |
