A bright sunny day brought dozens of people up to Mt Washington to enjoy the scenery and the hiking. While not all of them stopped to visit with us several people engaged in conversations with Krista in the SWI info centre, Friends of Strathcona Park, CV Search and Rescue folks (including a very cute border collie pup in SAR training), and Diana, Don, Pam and Norman at the CDMC table. Thanks to Diana for putting the materials together and Tim Penney for the great photos. Kel Kelly led people in several songs including "This Park is Your Park" (to the tune of .... guess?). The cake was great too! Thanks on behalf of Strathcona Wilderness Institute to CDMC members for coming out & supporting Canada's Parks Day & the start of BC Parks centennial year - with Strathcona Park being BC's first provincial park! ...Krista While people may not have shown up in great hordes, those who did showed great spirit in celebrating the new SWI facility on the eve of the 100th anniversary of Strathcona Park. What surprised me was the total no-show by anyone from BC Parks. (Bob) A postscript to Bob's note, the new Parks Ranger stopped in to the Wilderness Centre on Sunday, said he had intended to come on Saturday but there had been an incident at Buttle Lake (which I now assume is the story in the news)...Krista Report contributors: Pam M, Krista K, Bob S, Participant list: Norm C, Diana F, Susan H, Krista K, Don M, Pam M, Ken R, Jenny S, Bob S, Karl S, Darrell T, (G) = public guest (L) = lapsed member |
