Wood Mt; Fri Dec 11, 2009; hiking; leader: William Wright

Linda & I showed up at the Comox Lake Dam for 9 am. It was a chilly -2 C as we set out at a brisk pace for our Wood Mt destination. The first 5 kms were a demanding uphill trek and this become more challenging when we hit snow and then ice on some of the steeper pitches. It took us 4 hours to arrive atop the ski hill, still 1/2 hr short of the summit. Due to shortened days, we decided to have lunch and turn around. It was a nice spot with views of the Beauforts, Comox Lake and the eastern shore of Vancouver Island. Returning home, from this spot, was timely as we arrived back at the vehicle shy of 5 pm, with darkness drifting over the day. The temperature had warmed to +5 C and we agreed that a fine day had been enjoyed. We hit the White Spot, on our return to town, for a well earned meal from a full day in the hills!
