Mount Beecher Snowshoe Trip; Sun Jun 06, 2010; event; leader: Tim Penney

Eight hardy souls braved the cool and damp weather for this trip. We actually had better weather than expected with cloud levels hovering just below the higher peaks. There is still an amazing amount of snow even at the 3300 foot level as we entered Strathcona Park. We saw very little water running off the ridges above Boston Lake and the lake is still well covered in ice and snow.

The snow was fairly soft and could be negotiated quite well without snowshoes. Going up and down the steeper sections was easier without snowshoes, as William demonstrated. On the more level sections better traction was had with snowshoes.

We started snowshoe trips in November last year and we are still going strong seven months later. From the depth of snow still on the ground and the cool weather we could still be snowshoeing for another month or more.
