Ruth Master 90Th Birthday Celebration; Tue May 18, 2010; event; leader: Pam Munroe return to Reports

A grand night was had by all to celebrate the 90th birthday of our local legend, Ruth Masters. Lots of food was provided by attendees so that no one went hungry. Thanks to Greta Webster for the great decorations. The upper conference hall of the Filberg looked like a forest garden. Memorabilia of Ruth's life was displayed around the room and lots of pictures on tables showing significant events in her long life of activism and advocacy for the environment. Emcees Kel Kelly and Steve Smith did a good job of keeping the event flowing. Political reps from Area B, Area C, Cumberland, Comox, and Courtenay brought birthday greetings. Ruth also received congratulations from MLA, Don McRae, Premier Gordon Campbell and the David Suzuki Foundation. Entertainment was provided by the MizAdventures and Pantuso tap dance group as well as a couple of songs by Steve Smith. A beautifully decorated cake from Thrifty's rounded off the event.
Thanks to Pam, Kathy C, Krista, Norma, Kathy P, Greta, Angela and others for making this event such a success.
