IMPORTANT   INFORMATION   FOR   ALL   HIKERS
Comox District Mountaineering Club is a registered society devoted to outdoor recreation.  Prospective members are welcomed & encouraged to come out on one club day-hike before joining.  This provides an opportunity to meet club members and experience what the club hikes involve.  Children aged 7-15 years & accompanied by a parent or guardian who is a member of CDMC are permitted to participate in club activities at no charge.  However, these children will be the sole responsibility of the accompanying parent or guardian, who must sign a separate waiver form & agree to its conditions.  People 16 years and older are required to take out a youth or adult membership.

HAPPY   AND   SAFE   HIKING
On day trips, bring an adequate lunch with a little extra for delays or emergencies, & plenty of water to prevent dehydration (minimum 1 litre per person).   Wear strong sports clothing & sturdy boots.  Be prepared for sudden weather changes; always have good rain gear, a hat & a warm sweater with you.  We advise that you keep your backpack with you at all times, even if we return by the same route.  On overnight trips, you are responsible for your own tents, food & gear.

We cover some fairly rough terrain & some trips involve travel by automobile, boat or plane.  Hikers are requested to play it safe always, caring for each other & respecting the responsibilities assumed by the leader.  We try hard for 100% safety on all our trips; nevertheless, you participate entirely at your own risk.  Life jackets must be worn at all times when in a canoe, kayak or any other kind of small craft.   It is the responsibility of each participant to inform the leader of any health problems which may be a cause for concern during any club activity.

Never allow kids to throw or roll rocks.  We also request no dogs be brought on hikes for safety reasons.  When we become spread out on the trail please assemble at regular intervals to ensure all are accounted for & are OK.  Please stay with the group, or make sure the leader knows where you are going if you must deviate.  Avoid getting separated from your gear & try to keep some dry clothing in your pack, especially on overnight trips.  Members are expected to be self-sufficient - that means having your own first aid kit containing everything you would wish to be available if you were injured, & an emergency survival kit (see Essentials List ).  Members are encouraged to bring their own maps & compass, & learn how to use them.  Thus, they will improve their outdoor skills & may eventually develop into leaders themselves.

Please, always be fussy about sanitation & garbage.  Practice no-trace camping, cleaning all campsites for the next visitor.  We strongly recommend treating all wilderness water before drinking it.
